Get to know your Nooks booksellers

Once a month or so, we’re introducing you to members of the Nooks bookselling team answering some fun, bookish questions. Previously, we’ve featured Torie, Lauren, and Lisa. Today, you know her, you love her … it’s Maile!

How long have you been working at Nooks, and how are you connected to the shop?

I’ve been here since the beginning. And I’ve kind of got an umbilical cord type connection with the shop.

What are your favorite or go-to genres?

Mystery

When not at Nooks, how do you spend your time?

I love hanging with the fam, taking hikes with Winnie our dog (and fellow employee at Nooks,) and writing while sitting on my front porch. Oh, and cooking. I love cooking. And eating (see picture above.) And reading. Always reading.

What is one book you can’t stop recommending?

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

What’s the last book you DNF’ed (or wanted to)?

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredick Backman. I wanted to love it, but it started out so slow I gave up. But I want to give it another try in the future.

What book made you fall in love with reading?

The Ramona books. I remember listening to our school librarian read those books to us and I was hooked.

What’s the best part of working at a bookstore?

Getting to chat with customers. I LOVE hearing people’s stories. (Such a sucker for stories.)

What’s the worst part of working at a bookstore?

I don’t love shelving books. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it.

I love a nice bookmark, but if I’m honest, most of my books have scraps of paper to keep my place.

Several (I own a bookstore, for heaven’s sake!)

They are READING!!!!
